Pleurothallis lanceana

Pleurothallidinae are a sub-tribe of neotropical orchids belonging to the family Orchidaceae, sub-family Epidendroideae, tribe Epidendreae and contains 29 genera and over 4,000 species.

Naturally occurring species of this sub-tribe are among the more popular with orchids growers, especially the genera Dracula, Dryadella, Masdevallia and Restrepia.

The following genera are considered monophyletic: Barbosella, Dracula, Dresslerella, Dryadella, Lepanthes, Masdevallia, Platystele, Porroglossum, Restrepia, Scaphosepalum, Trisetella and Zootrophion.

Pleurothallis is polyphyletic and represented in five clades. Myoxanthus is also polyphyletic and represented in two clades.

The type species is Pleurothallis ruscifolia.
